FAQs

> Where do I go for advice about aged care?

Doctors and their nurses can provide advice and assistance for people at home, and all local hospitals have knowledgeable staff to provide advice and assistance for people who can’t go home.

The White Pages phone book has an Age Page immediately after the Advice and Assistance section near the front of the book for general advice, phone numbers, and to help arrange respite.

De Paul Villa staff are available by appointment during business hours (9am – 4pm) to provide individual advice and assistance, and to walk through the home and talk to residents.

> What do I need to do to get into aged care?

According to government regulations, everyone needs a current ACAT assessment, and to avoid being overcharged or undercharged, everyone needs to have applied for a current Centrelink financial assessment, though some people with large savings may choose not to bother with this 30-page form, and pay the maximum amounts instead.

> How much will it cost, is there a bond, and how much is it?

All residents at De Paul Villa are charged approximately 84% of a standard pension according to Department of Health and Ageing requirements, with exact amounts adjusted twice per year when pension rates are reviewed.

Again, according to government regulations, bonds are only paid by residents with a low care assessment, and only if Centrelink assess that a bond is affordable. De Paul Villa’s maximum bond is $250,000, but many residents without assets or incomes pay no bond, and many others only pay part bonds. Residents with high care assessments are not required to pay bonds, but again, based on Centrelink assessments, may need to pay a daily charge instead.

Until a current Centrelink assessment is provided, De Paul Villa staff can only assist with an estimate.
